There are many opportunities for volunteering at the Canal Museum.
Currently we have volunteer teams assisting staff with the care of the museum boat Sculptor, curatorial care and new displays (mainly over the winter months), guiding visitors and providing information, working with schools and giving talks and demonstrations of canal crafts such as 'roses and castles painting', crochet and lace making, rag rug making and ropework. If you have a few hours to spare and would be interested in becoming a more active member please contact us at volunteers@friendsofcanalmuseum.org.uk
Our two event sub-committees also welcome new members to assist with the organisation of up to three events a year in June, October and December.
Please contact us at volunteers@friendsofcanalmuseum.org.uk
Volunteers with organisational and other skills such as web design, desktop publishing and PR experience who would like to get involved with organising winter talks, social meetings, editing our newsletter or updating our website should contact Lynda Payton at
We'd like to hear from you if you can spare a few hours and have experience of fundraising and grant funding schemes.
